We locate the exact sore spot.
For the tendon that has outlasted rest, ice and everything else you tried. Acoustic pressure waves, aimed at the one spot that stopped responding.
What It Is
Shockwave therapy sends acoustic pressure waves into tissue through a handpiece pressed against your skin. Nothing enters the body. Nothing is injected. The waves travel a short way in, to the tendon that has stopped settling down.
It is for the stubborn ones. The tendon that has ached for months. The one that quieted down while you rested it, then flared the week you went back to normal. That is not a failure of effort on your part. It is usually the exact reason people come looking for this.
Two honest things, because you deserve them up front. It can be uncomfortable while the handpiece is working, and the treatment itself is short. People often picture therapeutic ultrasound, which you barely feel: this is a far more forceful input and you will know it is happening. It is also not the whole plan. The tendon still has to be loaded and rebuilt afterwards, and that part is what makes the change hold.

What It Helps

Questions, Answered
It can be uncomfortable while the handpiece is working, and we would rather tell you that now than surprise you on the table. Most people describe a strong, deep tapping right over the sore spot. The treatment part is short, we start low and build only as far as you allow, and you can ask us to stop at any point.
Rest takes load off a tendon, which helps while you are resting and often stops helping the week you go back to normal. Shockwave is a different kind of input to the same tissue, paired with loading work so the tendon gets rebuilt rather than only calmed. We will not promise you a number of sessions or an outcome. What we will do is a cause-first evaluation with a licensed physical therapist, tell you honestly whether this is the right tool for your problem, and say so if it is not.
That depends on your plan. Shockwave is coded differently than a standard therapy visit, and plans do not all treat it the same way. We check your exact benefits before your first session, so nothing lands on your bill that you did not agree to. Questions before then? Call us at (818) 341-3791.
