Questions, Answered

Everything you’re wondering before you book.

Straight answers, no jargon. If yours isn’t here, call and ask.

No. California allows direct access to physical therapy, so you can start without a doctor’s referral. If your insurance wants paperwork from a physician, we’ll track it down so it doesn’t hold up your care.

We check your exact coverage before your first visit, so you know your copay before you ever walk in. No surprise bill three weeks later. If you’d rather not use insurance at all, tell us and we’ll give you the cost before you book anything.

Wear something comfortable you can actually move in. Shorts are best if we’re treating a knee or hip, and a tank top or loose tee helps if we’re working on a shoulder or neck.

Your first visit, the evaluation, runs about an hour. You leave it with a plan that has an endpoint: four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform and Prevent, and a way to know when you’ve earned the next one. How many visits you need depends on what we find, and we tell you the estimate at the evaluation rather than stringing you along.

Yes, and it’s a common reason people come in. Bring whatever your doctor gave you, including a prescription for therapy if you have one, and we’ll build the plan around the areas that were actually injured. If a claim is involved, tell us on the first call and we’ll sort the paperwork with you.

No. Your exercises are chosen for your body and your goal, then changed as you improve. One patient wrote that her therapist recommended different tweaks of the exercises so she felt zero pain doing them. A printed sheet cannot do that.

That’s a fair question, and it’s usually the clinic, not you. A lot of people who come here already tried somewhere else. One patient had done more than a hundred sessions at other centers before she found this one. What she and others describe is the part that changes the outcome: somebody asks exactly how the injury happened, explains what they found, and gives you a plan with four phases and a clear end, so you always know why you’re doing what you’re doing and when you’re finished.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Bring a photo ID and your insurance card. If you have had imaging or paperwork from another provider about this problem, bring that too, though you do not need it to be seen.

Wear or bring something you can move in, and shoes you actually walk in. If there is a movement that reliably sets off your pain, be ready to show us. That one demonstration often tells us more than a form does.

Will I get exercises to do at home?

Yes, and they are chosen for you, not printed off a stack. You will be taught each one in the room, with hands on you, until it feels right. You leave knowing what you are doing and why it targets the thing driving your pain.

They stay short on purpose. A handful of movements you will actually do beats a long list you will abandon by Thursday.

Is treatment going to hurt?

It should not, and we work to keep it from doing so. Sore tissue gets handled at the level it can tolerate that day, and we tell you what you are about to feel before we do it.

You are with a licensed physical therapist the whole time, so nothing runs on longer than it should. Say the word and we back off. Some days you will feel worked, the way you do after honest effort. That is different from pain, and we will explain which one you are feeling.

How will I know when I am done?

Because we tell you what done looks like at the start. Your plan has an endpoint, written in your terms: lifting your kid without bracing, getting through a shift, running the distance you used to run.

We move through four phases, in this order: Pain, Prime, Perform, Prevent. When you are through Prevent and holding, you are discharged with what to keep doing. This is not a standing appointment you attend forever.

Do you speak Spanish?

Sí. Spanish is spoken at the clinic, so you can describe your pain in the language you think in. That matters here, because our whole evaluation depends on you being able to tell us exactly how the injury happened and exactly where it bites.

Call (818) 341-3791 and ask in Spanish. Puede llamarnos en español.

Can I come in for just one treatment instead of a full plan?

You can. Plenty of people come in wanting one thing looked at, or one treatment they already know helps them, and that is a fine place to start. Nobody is signed up for anything at the door.

What we will do is tell you the truth about it. If one visit is genuinely enough, we will say so. If the thing causing your pain needs more than that, you will hear what it would take and how long, and then you decide. Talk to a specialist or call (818) 341-3791 and ask.
