Weeks 1–2
Pain
Take the heat out of it.
Hands-on work and a tolerable dose of movement settle the injured tissue down, starting your very first visit.
What We Treat
The fear is not really the injury. It is the season moving on without you, which is why this starts with a cause-first evaluation instead of a guess.

Why It Happens
Sports injuries look like accidents. Most of them were built weeks before the moment they happened. Usually by some mix of four things. Training load that climbed faster than the tissue could adapt to. A stiff or weak link further up the chain, quietly covered for by the part that finally gave. An old injury that healed but never got rebuilt. And mechanics that fall apart late, when you are tired and the game is still going.
You are the one who plays through things. That is a real strength, and it is also why nobody has looked at this properly yet. A cause-first evaluation sorts out which of those four is actually driving your pain before anything gets treated. Rest and ice alone will not answer it. The pain quiets down, the cause stays, and it turns up again in your first hard week back. A generic stretching sheet does not answer it either. Your sport asks for specific things, and we rebuild those specific things with you before you go back to them.
The Honest Truth
Nobody regrets starting too early. The regret is always the season spent waiting.
How We Fix It
Every plan has an endpoint. Here’s what Pain, Prime, Perform and Prevent look like for a sports injury.
Weeks 1–2
Pain
Hands-on work and a tolerable dose of movement settle the injured tissue down, starting your very first visit.
Weeks 2–6
Prime
The guarded joint and the muscles around it get their full motion back before we ask them to produce force.
Weeks 6–10
Perform
Strength, then speed, then change of direction: the loading moves toward what your sport actually asks of you.
Weeks 10+
Prevent
We rebuild the specific demands of your sport, cutting, landing, sprinting, throwing, before you go back to them. That is the endpoint.

Questions, Answered
No. In California you can be evaluated by a licensed physical therapist without a physician referral, so nothing has to wait on a scan. Most sports injuries do not need imaging to be treated well, because the hands-on exam shows what the tissue tolerates right now and what it does not. If imaging or a physician does turn out to be necessary, we will say so plainly and help you get there. What costs you weeks is waiting for permission to start.
Not when the load is dosed correctly, and dosing it correctly is the whole job. Complete rest takes the pain away for a while. It also takes away the strength and the range your sport needs, which is how people get hurt again in their first week back. At your evaluation, a licensed physical therapist works out what this injury can handle today, then adds to it as it holds. You keep training. What you train changes.
We will not put a date on your return before we have looked at you, and anyone who does is guessing. What you get instead is a plan with an endpoint. All four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform and Prevent, with the demands of your sport built into the last one. You will always know which phase you are in and what is left, instead of an open tab of appointments.
